Freeman discussed his “new picture of business” in his talk last Thursday: a vision that promotes social collaboration to create value for stakeholders. He stressed the importance of understanding the complicated nature of society, which promotes an understanding of how various businesses operate. While I see the value in this, I am curious as to how we can incorporate such an understanding into our legal system? At one point, Freeman argued for more regulation, but not in a uniform manner. I am curious to know how he sees this becoming a reality. I agree that more flexibility and understanding could lead to better business, yet I am worried that this would not fit into our current legal system without some corporation taking advantage of it.
