The Bitter Side of Cocoa


Upwards of 70% of the world’s supply of cocoa comes from the West African countries of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. Unfortunately, cocoa farms in these nations are also prone to high rates of child labor due to poverty levels, demand for chocolate, and lack of education. The issue of eradication is difficult to tackle, and this paper offers a solution which asks chocolate industries to step in and take control of their supply chains through the involvement of third-party certification systems.
